Oheka Castle Wedding Guide – Everything You Need to Know
As soon as you step onto the grounds for an Oheka Castle Wedding in Huntington, New York, it’s clear that their number one priority is the happiness of their guests. From the numerous room options to the world-class catering and perfectly manicured grounds, they aim to make this magical occasion as special and easy as possible.
Without a doubt, Oheka Castle stands among my favorite wedding venues in Long Island, New York!
History of the Castle
The history of Oheka Castle is beautifully rich, dating back to 100 years ago when it was built by Otto Hermann Kahn. It sits atop the tallest spot in Long Island’s Cold Spring Harbor. The castle contains 127 rooms and was originally Kahn’s vacation home, which he used to host elaborate gatherings in the 1920s, often with the rich and famous in attendance. After he passed in 1934, the castle served varying purposes over the years, but eventually stood deserted for a time after the school that took it over closed in the late 1940s. Thankfully, a developer named Gary Melius bought what was left, and its 23 acres, in the 1980s. Melius called in specialists to restore it and preserve its authenticity. Bit by bit, Oheka was restored to its former glory.
Today, Oheka Castle is known as one of the most distinguished wedding locations in the world. It has also been used for many popular films and TV shows, including TV’s Succession and the movie Citizen Kane.

You can choose between a Terrace Room, Formal Dining Room, or Grand Ballroom for your wedding at Oheka Castle. Each option has additional rooms within and can accommodate parties of just about any size, with up to 700 guests in the cocktail reception area of the sought-after Terrace Room.
This historic Castle offers gorgeous, picturesque grounds for an outdoor ceremony on the Great Lawn and wedding pictures that just can’t be beaten. It is truly an unforgettable view. There is also plenty of room inside the Castle to have the ceremony if the weather does not permit an outdoor ceremony. The Castle is beautiful on its own, but guests can also decorate as they please. The best indoor event options for this location are the Grand Ballroom and the Formal Dining Room.
There are 32 guestrooms and suites on the upper floors, so guests can get the full experience of what it is like to spend the night inside a magnificent castle if they so choose. Breakfast is available from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. the following morning.
Wedding Cost
Oheka Castle doesn’t offer packages because there are many variables that may change the pricing. They recommend making an appointment with a sales manager in order to obtain a personalized quote. Typically the cost per person starts at $330 in the high-demand months. Holidays will typically be the most expensive, followed by Saturdays. Monday through Thursday in the first three months of the year will be the most budget-friendly option per person. If you are looking to save money and don’t mind the cold, a winter Oheka Castle dusted lightly with snow is a magical occasion that makes for stunning pictures.
For events Monday through Thursday, there is a minimum adult guest requirement of 125, which will move up slightly to 150 on Fridays and Sundays, and 200 on Saturdays. The maximum capacity is 350. In addition, there will be a 23% service charge, a site fee, 8.625% sales tax, and the cost of any chosen upgrades.
The site fee is required for all weddings and will be around $15,000-$20,000, depending on the day of the week and season.
Guests will have access to a dressing room, delicious hors d’oeuvre and dinner options, an open bar, white-glove service, the wedding cake, and plenty of staff available to help with anything that is needed throughout the day.
The castle books one wedding per day, so guests will have the sprawling, beautiful grounds and expansive, magnificent rooms all to themselves throughout their special day. The staff at the castle will be there to make sure everything goes smoothly for everyone involved. Everything from the picturesque scene in the garden to the exquisite food and the multitude of beautiful rooms makes it easy to choose Oheka Castle in any season.
